Haein Kang, born in Seoul and living in Seattle, is an artist dedicated to the artistic use of advanced science and technology. Kang began her career as an artist in 2002 by winning Construct2, an installation art award hosted by San Francisco Arts Commission. She held a solo exhibition at the Drawing Center of the Seoul Olympic Museum of Art in 2009 and received an Honorary Mention in the sound art section of the Prix Art Electronica in 2019.
Kang began her art practice by painting at Hongik University and diversified the artistic expression genre at the San Francisco Art Institute. She studied digital media system design at Sogang University and received a doctorate from the University of Washington for exploring the artistic application of brain-computer interfaces. The resulting Illusion, a performance-based sound art, was created with the support of 4Culture and DXARTS' Art+Brain Lab and premiered at Gallery 4Culture in 2018. The work has since been widely presented in international venues such as ICMC-NYCEMF, IEEE Games Entertainment & Media, SIGGRAPH-ASIA, and CODAME ART+TECH festival.
